How To Completely Delete BDE Engine

by admin on June 21, 2008

Hi Readers, today i want to upgrade my delphi 7 installation to codegear and i want to make it as clean install as possible so i uninstall all delphi 7 related including all the BDE Engine. then when i open my control panel i found one icon that really – really piss me off, there it stand the “BDE Administrator” icon proudly as like it want to make fun of me and say ..”hey you could not removed me…i will stay here as long as i want hahahaha “, did you guys ever have the feeling like that or stump to something like that ? what make it worse is that when i tried to search it on google no article can be found to show me how to delete that bde administrator icon on my control panel, i also found so many lines people said that bde has been abandon by Borland .
Lucky for us readers that i finally has found a way to delete those bde administrator icon on my control panel. so shorten the story here it goes how i did it.

  1. First of all we uninstall the bde engine as usual, with your preffered installware (when you first install bde used what engine of installer ? then you should used the same engine install to uninstall)
  2. Try search using regedit.exe for “bdeadmin”(without Quote). then carefully select and pick which one do you think was safe to delete(REMEMBER!, mistaken on deleting windows registry could cause serious damage to the windows system, so you do it on YOUR OWN risk!).
  3. Delete any folder from c:\program files\common Files\Borland\[all BDE related folder]
  4. For Grand Finale.., :) you delete one little bastard file from c:\windows\system32\ which is bdeadmin.cpl.. this cpl files was responsible for showing up the icon on our control panel. So the minute we delete this file that Zap! VOILA our little bastard icon disapear..

so i hope this information can help you all readers….

Thank you. Great help.
As bdeadmin.cpl is loaded at Win start you have to restart Windows before the admin is gone from the control panel.

have you set your UAC setting to none ? because using UAC deletion might interfered by windows .. as c:\windows\system32\ is considered as protected area.
